Deportivo Cali glory Miguel Escobar passed away this Tuesday at the age of 77 after suffering a relapse from a painful illness that had plagued him for several months.
Escobar, who had lost his voice due to throat cancer, was rushed to San José de Buga hospital last Sunday. The former player was in palliative care with one of his daughters in Buga until the recent relapse, which he ultimately failed to recover from.
Born on April 18, 1945 in Buga, the former defender was an elegant player who played for Deportivo Cali between 1967 and 1980. his career in Santa Fe, in 1981.
He also had a successful stint with the Colombian team, winning the Copa América subtitle in 1975.
With Deportivo Cali he won four stars, in the 1967, 1969, 1970 and 1974 seasons.
