This Monday, the Major Division of Colombian football issued a statement in which it “vehemently” rejects these facts and expresses its displeasure at the statements made by the Mayor’s Office of Medellín in which they blame the purslane club for what happened.
“The president of Dimayor and the Colombian professional football clubs reject the statements made by the authorities of the Department of Antioquia, in which they hold our affiliate club Atlético Nacional SA responsible for the acts of vandalism and violence that took place at the Atanasio stadium. Girardot, yesterday April 16, in the match scheduled for the 14th date of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I 2023 League,” the letter begins.
“For our institution and football in general, it is unacceptable for professional football clubs and their leaders to be held responsible for the acts of vandals who, by wearing a shirt, do not represent the values of an institution or have any connection to it. . Even less is it permissible that violence, intimidation, threats and seeking economic impact on the club be attempted to influence decisions of an administrative nature affecting those legitimately designated to do so,” he added.
“Dimayor and its member clubs vehemently denounce the acts of violence that have taken place. We publicly express our commitment to work with the competent authorities of national and local order to eradicate violence in our stadiums and enjoy football in peace and healthy coexistence,” he added.
Similarly, the entity governing Colombian football highlighted the behavior of Nacional and América and their desire to play the match on another date, which is not yet known.
“We emphasize the commitment of Atlético Nacional SA and América de Cali SA, who have reached an agreement to reschedule the match, the date and time of which will be determined by Dimayor and communicated through the official channels of the institution. In doing so, we will prevent the claims of violent from becoming a reality, as violence will never be recognized by our institution as a valid mechanism for exerting undue pressure on our affiliates,” said Dimayor.
It should be noted that Dimayor did not explain in his statement whether or not Atanasio Girardot would be punished for the acts of violence that took place last Sunday.
