A new experience. Coach Juan Cruz Real was presented on Friday as the new helmsman of Deportes Tolima, a club that had announced the departure of Hernán Torres a few days ago.
The 46-year-old Argentine strategist had his last coaching experience at Junior, a club where he was for much of 2022 and failed to win a single title with.
The counsel had probed in recent months to get on the bench of several teams, such as Independiente Santa Fe, Independiente of Argentina and Olimpia of Paraguay, but ultimately had not had the chance to take over the reins of another club.
His arrival at the ‘Pijao’ team went quite quickly. Last Sunday, when Hernán Torres’ departure was announced, no candidates to replace him had yet been heard, but everything changed since last Wednesday when rumors of his arrival started.
And this Friday, everything became official when the Ibaguereño team introduced him to the Argentine coach as their new technical director to face what is left of the League and the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana.
Juan Cruz Real faces a big challenge this semester to qualify for the semifinal home runs. Tolima currently has 19 points and is 12th in the table, three points behind Medellín, who is eighth. In addition, Ibagué’s team is second in Group D in the Copa Sudamericana, with three points, and still has the opportunity to advance to the next stage.
