Ajax coach Bakker warns “Nothing yet” after a hit in the title race

FC Twente were too strong 3-2 in the Super Cup battle, Twente won 3-1 at home in the Eredivisie and Twente won 2-1 in the KNVB Cup. But today in the Eredivisie title fight, Ajax won 1-0 in Amsterdam. Ajax Coach Suzanne Bakker said: “It’s a great feeling.

“It was 50-50 three times but we lost three times,” the Ajax coach continued. “Now it’s our turn in the most important game. We conceded at the first opportunity and then they have to come. We were able to let Twente have the ball and our goalkeeper, Lize Kop, was great.”

Twente Coach Pot: “We are injured”

Tiny Hoekstra opened the score early in De Toekomst and Twente, despite a ball, was rejected by Renate Jansen’s post and crossbar and Wieke Kaptein’s crossbar. With the win, Ajax took the lead, defending champion Twente with one game left.

For Twente coach Joran Pot, the grapes were sour. His team performed brilliantly for most of the season, with an unfortunate loss to Fortuna Sittard and a 79-4 goal difference in their last 18 games. However, the finish in Amsterdam was below average.

“We should have left the field victorious,” the coach said. “We were more dominant and stronger, but we were injured. We had enough chances and opportunities, but we weren’t able to capitalize on them.”

Van Domselaar positive: “We are still striving for it”

FC Twente striker Renate Jansen, who suffered a calf injury in the 70th minute, shared his coach’s opinion. “To win a game, you have to score,” he said. “We played good football, but even though Lize Kop played fantastically, one of these chances needs to be used.”

Twente goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar made a mistake in a single goal. He committed a shot from Ashleigh Weerden in front of match winner Tiny Hoekstra. Van Domselaar didn’t want to dwell too much on this and still believes in the championship. “It’s still open, we’ll just do it,” she said.

Ajax coach Bakker was wary of too much optimism in his teams. Next week’s away game against PEC Zwolle is in the final round and Twente hosts Feyenoord. “We may be happy today and tomorrow, but we have nothing yet,” Bakker says. “About Zwolle on Monday.”

Ajax captain Sherida Spitse has been spying on the league since 2018, a first for Ajax women. It means a lot to everyone.”
