Camila Osorio was victorious and advanced to the second round of the WTA 1,000 in Rome

Colombian Camila Osorio defeated Russia’s Varvara Gracheva in three sets, 7-6 (4), 6-1 and 7-6 (4), in the first round of the WTA 1,000 in Rome on Wednesday.

Osorio, the number 100 in the world ranking, entered the main draw from the previous phase and surprised the number 46 in the world in an even match of almost three hours.

The Colombian won the first set thanks to a tiebreak in which she was much more effective than her rival, a Gracheva who responded with her best tennis in the second set and ran over Osorio in the shortest set of the marathon.

The third set was a copy of the first, highly contested and with both tennis players unable to hold their serve, something that led the clash once again to a tiebreak in which the favorite was unable to contain the Colombian reveal, which will be measured in second round against the Croatian Petra Martic, number 28 in the world.
