Camila Osorio: “I have a lot of mixed feelings”

Colombian Camila Osorio, who knocked down world number four French Caroline García in the third round of the WTA 1,000 in Rome on Saturday, is “very happy with the result” but is already thinking of a round of 16 challenge in which she wants to “enjoy and have fun”.

Osorio stormed the central field of the Foro Itálico where this tournament is held and triumphed with authority over the fifth favourite, reaching the round of 16 for the first time in a tournament of this category.

“I feel very happy, thankful to God for this win, excited, proud, happy, calm… I obviously have a lot of mixed feelings for being in the second week of a Masters 1,000 for the first time and for the win against the number four in the world,” he told EFE at the end of the game.

“It’s absurd to have the privilege of playing against her and winning, it was amazing,” he insisted.

The Colombian commented on her win against the first player to win in the top-10: “She’s a very aggressive player, she really likes to get on the pitch and apply pressure, so I focused on moving my legs and controlling what I could control I was calm and I kept thinking calmly about the ball against the ball”.

Osorio will meet Brazilian Beatri Haddad Maia (12) in the fourth round, a match she mainly wants to enjoy.

“I am very happy with the result, but I am already focusing on the next game. The truth is I want to enjoy myself, have a good time, play the best tennis, which I’ve always done, enjoy every opportunity to play on the court without thinking about anything else,” he said.

“Now my coach is going to prepare for the next game, but for now I can focus on what I can do, which is the most important thing: having the best attitude, trusting myself, believing in God to move me forward and having a good time have in the field,” he said.
