Colombian Einer Rubio (Movistar) fulfilled a dream at the top of Crans Montana, where he triumphed after a display of intelligence against his front group rivals, Frenchman Thibaut Pinot and Ecuadorian Jefferson Cepeda.
“The big day I’ve been looking for has finally arrived. I’ve been working hard to prepare for the Giro, and I’ve finally achieved it. Now I’m not very aware of this win, I’ve reached the top achieved with the idea of I’m going to enjoy this win a lot,” said Rubio at the finish
Despite the inconvenience of bad weather, Rubio never broke down and kept fighting for a day like this Friday.
“The other day I had problems with the weather; the rain was very hard for me, but I knew I didn’t have to give up, I had to keep going, I had to find my chance, and today I had it. Thank you for God and for the people who always help me, a dream came true,” he said.
The very definitive strategy, without going into Pinot’s constant acceleration and waiting for his moment to attack.
“I knew Pinot and Cepeda were very strong. I just had to leave them both and play my strategy a bit, so I waited until the end,” he concluded.
