Balcony for rent. Colombian boxer Pablo “El Trencito” Carrillo will close out the boxing card promoted by former superbantamweight (WBC) world champion Kiyoshi Hatanaka this Sunday, starting at about 2 a.m. Colombia time, when he meets famed Japanese Kosei Tanaka.
Fans of the sport with natas noses will have to stay up all night or, failing that, wake up much earlier than expected to witness the amazing fight between Carrillo and Tanaka. In a card starting at 2:00 PM Japanese time at the Paloma Mizuho Arena in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, the national fighter jumps into the ring around 2:00 AM (national time) to throw a punch lying on the table and aiming for a world title in the future.
He reached the big stages. Pablo will have a difficult task as he has to withstand the fists – for 10 agreed rounds – of a former world champion in light flyweight and flyweight. Also ranked highly in IBF (#3), WBO (#3), WBC (#4), and WBA (#4).
It will be the fifth fight on Japanese soil for the Colombian, who already has a history of winning three fights and losing only one. The latter against the Asian Kazuto Ioka, former World Flyweight and Super Flyweight champion who defeated him on scorecards, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo (2014).
Before this match against Tanaka, ‘El Trencito’ had three consecutive wins (Andrés Rubio, Rober Barrera and Yenrry Bermúdez) and a draw (Dewayne Beamon) after losing to former Philippine world champion Donnie Nietes in the United Arab Emirates (2021).
They both have the same goal. Tanaka, only 27 years old, is one of the sensations in his country. His intent is to defeat the recent WBC America Continental Champion (Pablo Carrillo) in his pursuit of a world title shot.
His biggest showdown came in December 2022, when he beat South Africa’s Yanga Sigqibo, then number four by the WBO super flyweight, in Nagoya in December 2022. Likewise, his only fall was in Tokyo (2020), when he fell by knockout to Japan’s Kazuto Ioka.
The billboard starts at noon Colombia time. However, Pablo ‘El Trencito’ Carrillo and Kosei Tanaka are expected to meet forces in the nighttime star fight around 2pm Colombian time.
