Argentine Fernando Ortiz announced his resignation this Sunday as coach of Aguilas del América after his team was eliminated by Chivas de Guadalajara in the Clausura 2023 semi-finals.
“What I came up with is very short, I just have to say it for myself and my coaching staff. Today I’m closing the cycle with the institution, that’s all, thank you very much”, Ortiz said after America lost 1-3 in the second leg of the semi-finals against Chivas.
In the first match held last Thursday The Eagles won 0:1. This Sunday, Guadalajara took the lead 3-2 on aggregate.
In a duel that was played at the Azteca stadium, America dominated for part of the first half but that didn’t stop the visiting team, who opened the scoring with a goal from Ronaldo Cisneros.

In the second half The Eagles equalized with a strike from Chile’s Diego Valdes. Alan Mozo scored 1-2 for Chivas. There were 10 players left in the hall due to the elimination of Spaniard Alvaro Fidalgo in the second half.
Ortiz appeared in the conference room with a grim face and announced that he would not answer questions. He asked to listen to the message in which he announced his resignation and concluded with congratulations to the opponent.
“Congratulations Chivas. Gotta admit they played better and congratulations on reaching the final of the tournament,” said the Argentine before leaving in a hurry.
