Sharid Fayad, new junior Pan American and Latin American champion

Atlantic runner Sharid Fayad took major steps towards her goal of qualifying for the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024 by hanging up the gold medal, in the junior category, from the sixth round of the BMX Latin Cup, held this weekend . Riobamba, Ecuador.

The woman from Barranquilla was the leader of a Colombian delegation that earned a total of ten medals in this competition. Four runners reached the gold medal, while the silver and bronze medals were supplemented by three each.

Fayad, along with Juan José Velásquez, was part of the junior gold medalist. Manuela Martínez reigned in the sub-23 category and Diego Arboleda took the elite.

Colombia also showed signs of clear dominance in the Pan American BMX Championship also held in Ecuador this weekend. There, Sharid Fayad returned to the top of the throne in the junior category.

There were a total of nine national territory medals in this competition. Gold for Fayad and Manuela Martínez, this one in the under-23 category, and silver for Mariana Agudelo (junior) and Carlos Ramírez (elite).

The bronzes were completed by Santiago Santa, Valentina Muñoz, both in sub-23, and Santiago Suárez (elite).

“I am very happy. This is my fourth consecutive year as Pan American champion, second consecutive year in the junior category. Happy to have been first, to be able to carry the name of Colombia in high regard and grateful to all the people who support,” Sharid Fayad declared as the joust ended.
