Japanese car manufacturer Sling announced this Wednesday his return to Formula 1 in 2026 as a supplier of engines and other equipment for the Aston Martin team, he said at a press conference.
“Honda has made the decision to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship. as a supplier of engines starting with the 2026 season,” said Honda President Toshihiro Mibe, who sees the firm’s involvement in racing sports as a “research vehicle” to develop its products, said during the speech.
Mercedes, which has been a partner of the team from Silverstone since 2009, will continue to supply powertrains for Aston Martinexcept for the gearbox and rear suspension, until the end of 2025.
“One of the key reasons for our decision to take on the new challenge of Formula 1 is that the most important way to compete in the world is to strive for become a sustainable racing serieswhich is in line with Honda’s commitment to carbon neutrality and will be a platform that will drive the development of our electrification technologies,” said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe.
“Honda is a company that has a history of growing by taking on challenges and winning world-class races. With new rules 2026 the key to victory will be a compact, lightweight, powerful electric motor with a high-performance battery capable of withstanding high and fast power output, as well as power management technology,” he added, according to the F1.
