The last day of the Premier League kicks off at 10.30am on Sunday, with two relegation and one Conference League places vacant.
There will be five games where something is at stake: Everton-Bournemouth, Leeds United-Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford-Manchester City, Aston Villa-Brighton and Leicester City-West Ham United, while the rest of the games will be completely unimportant, outside scaling one position or more in the table, with no incidence in European competitions.
This is the case of Manchester United against Fulham and Newcastle United against Chelsea, where only third place is at stake, as both ‘Red Devils’ and ‘Magpies’ have already secured their ticket to the League of Champions.
The Europa League has already been certified for Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, but seventh place is up in the air. Aston Villa have the lead, with 58 points and a final home game against Brighton. If the ‘Villains’ win, they will confirm the European standings ten years later and a draw would be worth it as long as neither Tottenham nor Brentford win.
The ‘Spurs’, visiting Elland Road, will be worth a draw to get into Europe if Villa don’t win, while Brentford need neither Villa nor Tottenham to win and beat Manchester City.
Relegation involves three teams, Everton, Leicester and Leeds, for two places in the Championship. The ‘Toffees’ start the day with 33 points, so it’s in their hands. If they win against Bournemouth, who have been on holiday for three days, they will stay in the Premier. If they draw, they don’t need Leicester, who have the better goal difference, to win to save themselves.
Leicester, who won the Premier League seven years ago and the FA Cup champions two years ago, play at home against West Ham United, who are already thinking about the Conference League final, while Leeds hosts Tottenham. Both must win and wait for an Everton debacle at Goodison Park.
