Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann is Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) priority choice to replace Christophe Galtier on the bench and negotiations are well advanced, sports newspaper L’Équipe reported on Sunday.
The dialogue between the two sides goes back several weeks and, according to L’Équipe sources, the agreement is close.
In addition, Nagelsmann would arrive accompanied by former French footballer Thierry Henry as his number two.
The German coach, who has enjoyed a great career at the age of 35, led Bayern Munich between 2021 and until last March, with whom he won a Bundesliga.
Before that leg, he had broken the record as the youngest coach in Bundesliga history by managing Hoffenheim in 2016, then also went through the RB Leipzig bench.
Replacing Galtier, who arrived at the start of the season but didn’t know how to win over the board or the Parisian fans – even with the league title won this season – other names have also emerged.
At the end of May, the newspaper Le Parisien, very close to PSG, designated the Spaniard Luis Enrique as the favorite to take over the reins of the Parisian team.
Also returning to the groups was Portugal’s José Mourinho, currently in charge of Roma, with whom he finished runners-up in the Europa League, but assured the French sports press that he was not particularly drawn to directing PSG.
The Italian-Brazilian Thiago Motta, who has had a great season at Bologna, and the Argentinian Marcelo Gallardo also sounded like candidates.
