Matheus Uribe has a new title in Portugal

Porto won their 19th Portuguese Cup today by beating Sporting Braga 2-0, with an own goal from André Horta and another from Luso Brazil’s Otávio.

The “dragons”, who fought unsuccessfully for the league with Benfica until the last day, thus close the season with the other three league titles, as they also became champions of the Portuguese Super Cup and the League Cup.

After a goalless first half at the Jamor Stadium on the outskirts of Lisbon, Porto opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with an own goal from André Horta.

Galeno put in a cross from the left and the Portuguese, trying to avoid Spain’s Toni Martínez’s shot, eventually fired the ball into his own goal.

Further up the scoreboard, an obstacle emerged for the “dragons” when they were down to ten after Wendell was sent off in minute 62 for sticking the studs into Góemz’s leg.

But it didn’t take long for the forces to equalize and Braga was also left with one man less in the 79th minute due to Niakaté’s exclusion after a foul on Taremi.

Immediately, just two minutes later, Porto extended their lead with a goal from Otávio.

The Luso-Brazilian put the final result on the scoreboard after an assist from Galen and confirmed the victory of the “dragons”.

The trophy is also the third Portuguese Cup for Sérgio Conceição in charge of Blauw-Wit, following those won in 2020 and 2022.
