The light of life went out again for one of our old guard athletes. Back in the days when Colombia was not a big sensation in the Major Leagues, the power of one of the most remembered Bolivarian baseball players, ‘Bartolo’ Gaviria, was already being enjoyed in the national gardens.
On the morning of this Monday, at 05:00 to be exact, the unfortunate death of the man whose real name was Luis Carlos Gaviria Lucas, but better known as ‘Bartolo’ Gaviria, was confirmed. A Cartagena batter who was constantly on the move in the home run habitat.
It was a heart failure due to various pathologies that ultimately claimed the life of the remembered first baseman of the Bolivarian team, who came to represent the country at the Central American, Pan American and Bolivarian Games. There he shared with the also historic Abel ‘El Tigre’ Leal (RIP).
Gaviria, left-handed among others, went by the pseudonym ‘Bartolo’ in honor of his father’s name. He died at the age of 78 in the Las Gaviotas neighborhood. Similarly, since 1987, he enjoyed his retirement from the hot ball. Farewell to a great one.
