Titanes’ path to its eighth consecutive title in Colombian professional basketball begins today in Cali, when the Barranquilla quintet visits ‘Team Cali’, starting at 8 p.m., in Game 1 of the 2023-I Playoffs.
It will undoubtedly be an exciting clash, which will reward the winner of a three-match series. The first will take place in Cali, the second in Barranquilla and if a third is reached, it will also be held at the Elías Chegwin Coliseum.
Titanes led group A in the regular phase with 13 wins and three losses in 16 games played, while their rival in this series, ‘Team Cali’, finished in fourth place in group B, with six wins and 10 losses.
The last time the two quintets met in a decisive phase was in the semi-finals of the first tournament of 2022, when Titanes won 3-1 to qualify for the final, where they won their sixth consecutive title.
Previously, they had clashed in the 2020 singles final, where again the Barranquilla team, managed by Tomás Díaz, emerged victorious (3-1) to take their third trophy that year.
The winner of the series between Titanes and ‘Team Cali’ will meet the winner of the key between Caribbean Storm Islands and Bucaros in the semifinals, which will start next Monday in Bucaramanga.
The other matches of the 2023-I Playoffs (Quarterfinals) are: Cafeteros vs. Motilones del Norte and Piratas de Bogotá vs. Maroons of Choco.
Titanes and Cafeteros start as favorites for the title after leading their zones in the regular season.
