UK support for Barranquilla 2027 Pan American Games

Although Gustavo Petro’s government has not yet confirmed whether it will ultimately support the organization of the 2027 Pan American Games, Barranquilla continues to work towards its organization. This Monday began the visit of the British company 4Global to various sports venues and emblematic places in the city to research the social and economic impact of the jousting in the city.

The idea of the study stems from the alliance that the district and the British Embassy in Colombia agreed on Oct. 21, during the visit of the British Ambassador, George Hodgson, to the Atlantic capital.

“The ambassador is giving us great news about his guidance for the Pan American Games with studies that will help us understand the social and economic impact in our city, just as the London Olympics have had,” Mayor Jaime Pumarejo said. moment out.

“We recognize that Barranquilla has a very prosperous future ahead and we want to invest in this vision and opportunity,” said Hodgson.

Since then, Barranquilla has been working with the British Embassy to receive support from the international cooperation fund called the Challenge Fund. According to information published by the District on its networks, on February 7, 2023, the Government of the United Kingdom opened a tender to conduct the Socio-Economic Impact Study of the Games. After the embassy received and internally evaluated the proposals, it chose them from the temporary consortium consisting of 4Global, Mace and Sheffield Hallam University.

The study, due for delivery in September, covers three points: social and economic impact, activities for presenting results to key stakeholders and costs of the Games.

At the beginning of the visit, the members of 4Global were accompanied by the manager of special projects for the district, Daniel Trujillo, at the Malecón del Río, at the Metropolitano Stadium, at the Rafael Cotes Athletics Stadium, at the Carlos Valderrama Sports Complex and the modern stadium Julio Torres.
