James Harden exploded against the president Philadelphia 76ersDaryl Morey during his tour of China, speaking to fans and local media.
He told the public that he became the most valuable player in the NBA in the 2018 season.
Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be part of the organization he is part of. Let me reiterate: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be part of the organization he is part of.
The problem between Harden and Morey is James’ salary.

In 2022, Harden waived a $47.4 million option for the 2022–2023 season and instead signed a two-year, $68.6 million contract with the 76ers that included an option to extend through 2023–24.
The move gave the 76ers more flexibility last season to build a competitive team, primarily signing space. PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency.
It caused alarm at the time and even resulted in a fine for Philadelphia, who eventually lost a second-round pick in 2023 and 2024 for violating free agency rules in early conversations with both players.
However, Harden turned down the money in the short term to help the team and explained this in an interview with the publication. Associated Press.
It was very, very important to me to get less money this year to sign as many players as we needed to help us fight for the title and be the last team standing.
By signing that deal, Harden would have been eligible to sign a four-year, $210 million extension last season.
No one knows if these details were promised behind closed doors, but the bottom line is that the maximum offer never came through.
