New England Patriots surprised by the release of Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham to stay with Mac Jones as the only “guard” on the team, within the NFL’s deadline for 32 franchises to determine the 53 members that will play in the 2023 season.
Zappe ran a consistent campaign last year. He also performed well in all three games in the preseason, which seemed to be enough to open up a spot on the team he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, but he didn’t make it.

Cunningham, a defender who can play in multiple positions, was heavily involved in two warm-up games. He had the composure to find his receivers and the ability to get out of his pocket, but it wasn’t enough to convince Bill Belichick, the Patriots’ coach.
At Buffalo, he emphasized having a cornerback. Damar Hamlin in the Bills’ final lineup for this season after recovering from a cardiac arrest he suffered last January in a regular season game.
Hamlin, who had been in intensive care for a week, was released to return to training a couple of months after the incident. He participated in the summer camp with his team and in the games this preseason showed that he was ready to play.
For their part, the New Orleans Saints confirmed that the wide receiver Jimmy Graham will play this campaign. Graham, who takes medication to prevent seizures, was arrested a week ago after not taking his medication and officers thought he was roaming under the influence of a banned substance.
Jimmy, 36, will be in his 13th season in the NFL, having traveled to Seattle, Green Bay and Chicago in addition to New Orleans.
In San Francisco, the 49ers are still waiting for the pay raise deal he’s asking for. Nick Bozaone of the best defensemen in the NFL.
