The Birth of the Mexican Softball League: Latin America’s First Professional

Mexican Baseball Leaguethe main professional circuit of this sport in the country, announced last Wednesday, September 20, the creation Mexican Softball League (LMS) feminine, i.e. first professional character in Mexico and Latin Americaproject, which aims to “promote innovation, gender equality and development of women’s professional sports“.

During the presentation, held at Mexico City’s Horacio de la Vega Hotel, Executive President of the Mexican Baseball League; Rolando Guerrero, President of the Mexican Softball Federation; Gabriel Medina, LMB athletic director; Julissa Iriarte, professional judge; and softball players Lupita de la Torre, Linna Rebolledo, Stefania Aradillas and Marlene Espinoza.

The six LMS founding clubs will become Red Devils of MexicoBravos de Leon, El Aguila de Veracruz, Yucatan LionsOlmecs of Tabasco and Sultans of Monterrey. The teams will play games in the same stadiums as their men’s namesakes.

Horacio de la VegaExecutive President of LMB, emphasized:

This is a very important project. We are witnessing a historical event. If we all work together, we will make this new league grow in the years to come.

The first edition of LMS will begin its regular season next year. January 25, 2024 and will end in a month, on February 25, and postseason starts in two days, on the 27th. 60 games what will constitute this first tournament will be played 7 entries and to form templates, draft on a date yet to be determined.
