Verstappen has extended his contract and will remain with Red Bull until 2028

Max Verstappen has extended his contract with Red Bull Racing for five years on Thursday. The Dutchman signed a contract with the Austrian Formula 1 team until 2028.

The 24-year-old Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull, which two years ago extended his contract until 2023. He paid the price for his self-confidence by becoming the first Dutchman to become world champion in the first class of motorsport last year.

Telegram He had previously reported that Verstappen would earn between 40 and 50 million euros a year and that the Dutchman would have signed the most lucrative contract in Formula 1 history. He was already the highest paid Dutch athlete at the time.

In a response, Verstappen said he still greatly appreciates his collaboration with Red Bull. “So it was an easy choice to sign up for 2028. I love this team, it was great last year,” he recalls his first championship in the team. “Since I joined the team in 2016, our goal has been to become champions, and we have succeeded. to keep number 1 in the car for a long time.”

Verstappen’s new contract is unusually long for Formula 1 terms. Most contracts run until the end of next season or the end of 2023, as is the case with Lewis Hamilton. Only a few have a longer contract. Charles Leclerc is tied to Ferrari until the end of 2024. Lando Norris signed a new contract last year that binds him to McLaren until the end of 2025.

Verstappen joined Red Bull in the 2016 season.

Verstappen immediately impressed by winning the Spanish Grand Prix on his debut for the Austrian team. In total, the son of Jos Verstappen has won twenty races and has been on the podium sixty times.

Last year, Verstappen won ten Grand Prix, including the blood-curdling final race in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen became world champion for the first time by beating champion Lewis Hamilton in the last lap.

Verstappen will once again form a driver duo with Mexican Sergio Pérez in 2022. The new season starts on March 20 with the Bahrain Grand Prix. There will be three more days of testing in the island state next week.
