In this World Championships, all-round and sprint championships are at stake. Unlike World Distance Championships, where a world title is divided by distance, skaters run four races. The person with the fewest points can qualify to become World Sprint Champion or Allround Champion.

In the sprint tournament, runners skate the 500 and 1,000 meters twice, while in the all-round championship fight, the men and women skate the 500, 1,500 and 5,000 meters. 10 kilometers for men and 3 kilometers for women are on the program.

It has had great success in the past at the World Allround and Sprint Championships, which are held every two years from this year in Hamar, Netherlands. At the previous edition, two years ago in Hamar, Patrick Roest and Ireen Wüst were world champions all-round.

Two weeks after the Olympics, many big names are missing from the World Cup, including Olympic champions Erin Jackson, Wüst and Gao Tingyu. Russian and Belarusian skaters are also absent from Hamar because it has been banned by the international skating federation ISU because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In Vikingskipet, three-time world champion all-round Roest and three-time Olympic champion Irene Schouten are on the program. Big favorites for the versatile hood. In the sprint tournament, Olympic silver medalist Jutta Leerdam and Olympic champion Thomas Krol compete for gold in the 1000m.
