Formula 1: Verstappen wins pole position in Austin sprint

Three-time Formula 1 world champion Red Bull, Max Verstappenreceived pole for the sprint race this Saturday at US Grand Prixand next to him in the front row is Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

The top three in qualifying for the 19-lap race were separated by just 0.069 seconds. Lewis Hamiltonfrom Mercedes as the third fastest.

For his part, the Mexican Sergio Perez starts seventh.

Verstappen led the final session, which saw each driver run a stint on soft tyres, and set the fastest time of one minute and 34.538 seconds.

Lando NorrisMcLaren was second but Leclerc, who starts from pole in Sunday’s main race, knocked him out of the front row with a time 0.055 seconds slower than Verstappen.
