As part of the event, a five-kilometer athletics race was organized this Saturday.Together for tolerance – running for refugees“, in that Roberto Tapatio Mendes Stadium from University City (UNAM).
It was held for the second year in a row and was organized jointly with National School of Social Work (ENTS) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The last runners arrived at 9am, under a brilliant sun and a completely blue sky. inside thempeople of both sexes, all ages and different backgrounds. The shouts and applause of the organizers were heard by all the athletes of that day. this road is not competitive, but symbolic.
Students from UNAM, mothers with their children, refugee groupsgrandparents… Everyone was happy to participate in this race, carrying UNHCR T-shirt.
This race took place on the occasion fiftieth birthday National School of Social Work. The chosen period is also symbolic; the race took place two days after October 19. National Anti-Discrimination Day.
Gerardo Talaverahead of the association’Home for Refugees Program(PCR) noted that the event was free due to a “total of collaboration.”
Our main donor is UNHCR, which provided T-shirts, and the Jesuit Refugee Service collaborated with the water. Bioflor has added honey to reduce sugar consumption.

ENTS took over the entire administrative process on site, requested premises… People who study at the university supported us by planning the route. We presented medals and offered lunch.

We were surprised because two days after publication we had to close it because the quota reached its limit. We initially had a quota of 300, but had to open it up to 350. We were very surprised that society as a whole was joining in on these things.
ENTS, among other things, it is aimed at representatives of civil society, but also directly to refugeesto help them get a job, fill out applicationsAnd know coins and denominations. In fact, their goal was also to attract refugees to participate in the race.
The idea was for the call to reach shelters. We have a tennis and clothing run so people who don’t have sports equipment can take part.
The event is part of disseminating wider knowledge about migration within the university. This topic is part training plans racing in Social sciencies. There are regular seminars on this topic, one was organized 2 years ago at situation in Afghanistan.
This question is the “most” question: it has economic, social, political and cultural implications. Our country is a transit, recipient and sender.

This race was organized with the idea promote coexistence between alland raise awareness of the problem people in situations of forced mobility. Alma Delia CruzThe head of the university administration and volunteer for the Home for Refugees program explains:
Sport promotes values such as solidarity, equality… The moment we perceive ourselves as equal to others, we put aside the entire range of existing prejudices and the conflict with this coexistence, which should occur harmoniously.

I’m always training, I’m never calm. I enjoy playing several sports: football, baseball and basketball. I like all sports, but I do those that I understand.
This young man was accompanied by other refugees: Venezuelans, Salvadorans, Haitians and Hondurans.. The group of three Venezuelans did not hesitate to take the podium to take photos and celebrate this shared moment.
We had the opportunity to come here to CDMX, we are grateful for this race. One of our privileges is to compete and help other refugees throughout Mexico.
