French supertalent Wembanyama was denied victory in his NBA debut

French super talent Victor Wembanyama did not end his first match in the NBA, the world’s most powerful basketball organization, with a victory.

His club, the San Antonio Spurs, lost last night’s home game 126:119 against the Dallas Mavericks, which features superstars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. 19-year-old Wembanyama, who played professionally in Paris before moving to the NBA, scored 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 of his 5 three-point attempts in 23 minutes.

Basketball fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting the versatile French prodigy’s competitive debut for weeks. The 2.24 meter tall center has eagle arms and a 2.40 meter wingspan, has the dribbling skills of a point guard and a good long distance shot.

In the first minute of the game against Dallas, Wembanyama immediately blocked a shot. His first goal in the NBA was a three-point shot three and a half minutes into the game.

It did not go unnoticed by Spurs coach Greg Popovic, who was watched by the whole world. “It is clear that Victor has attracted great interest and will continue to do so for a long time. Luckily, he is already very mature and knows what he wants. “He is already a professional.”

For the first Wembanyama game, San Antonio received no less than 200 requests for press credentials from eight different countries; this was comparable to media attention during the NBA Finals.

Fans wore Wembanyama jerseys with the names of Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker written all over the stands. With this trio, San Antonio had great success under Popovic (five NBA titles in total). After four seasons without making the playoffs, Wembanyama’s golden times must now return to San Antonio.
