When asked about this delivery of the Pan-American flag, Ilic guaranteed it at the end of the 2023 Games in Santiago. “It is with great pride that we will deliver these to Barranquilla, Colombia.”

He also assumed that work was being done on Pan American Confederations and International Associations to increase the number of competitive Olympic places in the Pan American Games as this “adds a special touch to the struggle for qualification for the Olympic Games ”.

The upcoming venue was put in doubt by a letter Ilic sent in August to Barranquilla mayor and COC president Ciro Solano, asking her to make it comply with the treaty organizing the 2027 Pan American Games, otherwise they be moved to another country.

“The termination of the contract and the withdrawal from the games take place (…) without prejudice to the right of Panamá Esportes to exercise all claims for damages and all other available rights and remedies,” Ilic added in his note.

In this sense, he emphasized that the city and the organization have until October 29 to meet requirements such as creating an Organizing Committee and making payments for organizational rights and the allocation of broadcasting rights, among others. Present work plan and budget to Panam Sports.
