Quintana, 33 years old, wore the colors of Movistar from 2012 to 2019, a team with which he achieved the great achievements of his professional career, such as Giro d’Italia 2014, Tour of Spain 2016 and three podiums (second in 2013 and 2015 and third in 2016) in the Tour de France.
“I’m excited to return home. It’s been a difficult year. Days without sleep, many days of enormous sacrifice, getting on your bike and trying to move forward, rain or shine. But it was worth it. I’m not going to waste the opportunity. I know the values of the team, the values of the sport. “I’m going to do my utmost to do well and I want to contribute to the team to achieve the best results,” Quintana said when announcing his return to the Spanish team.
“I thank Movistar, Telefónica and the team for this great opportunity, which I have been waiting for so long. I’m going to give everything with my heart and my legs, for them and for the fans. I hope this cycle will be very successful for the team,” he added.
After leaving Movistar, Nairo Quintana signed for the French team Arkea, whose passage, from 2020 to 2022, was discreet and took part in the Tour de France only in the Grand Tours. His best result in those three years was fourth place in the 2022 Vuelta a Catalunya and fifth place in the Paris-Nice also from that year.
