The prize pool for the Rugby World Cup is considered the highest in history.

New Zealand will face South Africa on Saturday night as an old rugby rivalry is reignited. In addition to taking home the coveted Webb Ellis Cup, there will be a pot of gold at the end of the line.

According to August Man, the winners of the competition will receive almost £5 million. Runners-up will receive just under £2.5 million. Argentina and England, the losing semi-finalists, each received £1.2 million.

Returning to the group stage, those who failed to progress to the play-offs received £250,000 each. Teams such as Wales, who progressed to the quarter-finals, received just over £600,000.

This is a significant increase in prize money compared to 2019, with defending champions the Springboks receiving just £300,000 for winning the entire championship four years ago.

It has not been confirmed whether there will be additional reward for winning Friday’s bronze medal match between England and Argentina.

The total prize money for the 2023 tournament is estimated at £40 million.
