SC Heerenveen clinched their third win of the season. Kees van Wonderen’s team, which could use three points after a mediocre start to the season, lost 3-0 to Heracles Almelo at the Abe Lenstra Stadium. Thanks to the victory, Heerenveen rose from fifteenth to tenth place.
In the early stages, Frisians were masters of their own houses. Patrik Walemark sent several Herac players into the woods with some nice moves down the right wing, Luuk Brouwers made it difficult for Herakles goalkeeper Michael Brouwer with a fierce header, and Osame Sahraoui was a nuisance for the Herakles defenders.
It was no surprise that Friesen’s first goal came within ten minutes. Heerenveen was supported by right-back Navajo Bakdraad, who mishandled the ball completely. Sahraoui took advantage of this and made no mistake to score 1-0.
Ten minutes later, Brouwer was forced to concede 0-2 after Brouwers confidently fired a shot at goal from around thirty yards. It was a saving goal for 25-year-old Brouwers, who scored his first goal for Heerenveen. His previous Premier League goal for Go Ahead Eagles was a year and a half ago.
Heerenveen slowed down a bit after Sahraoui, one of the prominent players of the first half hour, had to leave the field injured in the 34th minute. But Almelo’s guests could do nothing in exchange for peace. Herakles could not clear Lasse Wehmeyer’s header, which hit the crossbar.
Noppert keeps the door clean
Herakles made Heerenveen goalkeeper Andries Noppert work harder after the break, but the five-time international kept his goal clean thanks to some good saves. After initially slipping Wehmeyer’s shot just over the goal, he also took a sharp shot from substitute Marko Vejinovic’s long-range shot.
Fellow goalkeeper Brouwers had to concede defeat in the second half and concede his third goal of the night. Following excellent preparation work by Anas Tahiri, Brouwers sent the ball into the goal from close range.
