Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, congratulated Lionel Messi, Inter Miami MLS player and captain of the Argentina national team, on winning the Eighth Ballon d’Or last Monday at the Châtelet Theater gala in Paris.
The Brazilian president assured that the Argentine star should let him “serve as a model for Brazilian players” because Messi “does not go with the party” and is “dedicated and professional”.
Lula highlighted that the Argentinian won the award at the age of 36, the same age he won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He concluded by saying that young Brazilians should take on the captaincy of the Argentine team “Inspiration of Devotion”.
Messi is the main winner of the prestigious award of the specialized magazine France Football, with eight Ballon d’Or awards (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2023).
