Champions League defeat Ten Hag and United on a fascinating evening in Copenhagen

In the Champions League, Manchester United lost 3-4 to FC Copenhagen on a thrilling evening. Coach Erik ten Hag’s team, which was under great pressure due to poor results, could not beat the Danes with one player down, despite being ahead 0-2 and 2-3.

The defeat left United in a disappointing eighth place in the Premier League and had to fear elimination from Europe. The Reds are in the last place in Group A with 3 points, one point more than Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Real, Bayern, Inter and Sociedad continue

On the other hand, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Internazionale and Real Sociedad qualified for the next round, while PSV regained full participation in Group B by beating RC Lens 1-0.

Copenhagen-United was stopped twice in the first half. First, because of a fan entering the field with a Palestinian flag, and then because of a medical emergency in the stands.

Paramedics crossed the field to assist. The person in question was then taken out of the stadium on a stretcher to loud applause.

At this point United were 0-1 ahead. At that time, Rasmus Højlund thought he would be the man of the night. After opening the scoring for United, he also scored in the 0–2 defeat against the club on his professional football debut.

Red Rashford

The red card given to Marcus Rashford made things difficult. Manchester’s attacker stepped on Elias Jelert’s ankle during the match and had to leave the field. The Danes gained one more confidence and equalized before half-time.

After Mohamed Elyounoussi’s equalizer, the score was 2-2 in the tenth of thirteen minutes of extra time: Diogo Goncalves converted the penalty after Harry Maguire’s handball.

In the second half, the ball remained in the opposite goal. Maguire headed in Lukas Lerager’s arm. Bruno Fernandes unwrapped the gift: 2-3.

United waited another twenty minutes to get over the line and Ten Hag saw his team go down. Thanks to goals from Lerager (3:3) and 17-year-old talent Roony Bardghji, Copenhagen made the score 4:3.

Bayern tour continues

In the same group, Bayern Munich defeated Galatasaray 2-0. Just like in Istanbul two weeks ago, Bayern Munich has long had problems with Galatasaray at home, but the Germans have Harry Kane.

Kane made the difference with two goals in the last 10 minutes: 2-0. With twelve points collected in four matches, Bayern’s place in the last 16 rounds was guaranteed.

Madrid beat Braga without any problems

In Group C, Real Madrid defeated Braga 3-0 without taking Jude Bellingham off the bench. The Spaniards are now through to the last 16.

Braga failed to take the lead early in the game at the Bernabeu. Alvaro Djalo scored from the penalty spot, but Andriy Lunin saved the penalty. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has proven to be a valuable replacement for Thibaut Courtois under the crossbar at Madrid. Together they saved three of the club’s last four penalties.

Real then put their affairs in order. Brahim Diaz scored the first goal in the first half. After the break, the Brazilian leader created tension. Vinicius made the score 2-0 with a nice attack, and Rodrygo made the score 3-0 with his goal.

Union Berlin defeated Napoli

Union Berlin also surprisingly took a point in Group C in the away game in Naples (1:1). A boost for the Germans, who had lost their previous twelve matches in all competitions. It didn’t help that Union Berlin were eliminated from the Champions League with two rounds remaining.

After Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s disallowed goal, Matteo Politano put Napoli ahead. The guest team equalized at halftime. After a sharp counter attack, Sheraldo Becker found goalkeeper Alex Meret, the rebound went to David Fofana: 1-1.

Napoli, who dominated most of the match, still had chances but ended in a draw.
