Judoka Meyer’s serious knee injury: “My dreams are ruined”

Roy Meyer suffered a serious knee injury at the European Judo Championships last week and is expected to be out of action for months. “My dreams are ruined,” the judoka said on Instagram.

“The initial tests didn’t look too bad, but now it looks like I will be out for the foreseeable future and will need surgery,” Meyer said.

This is the second blow that Meyer has had to deal with in a short time. It has also recently emerged that he needs to look for a new coach. Brit Jean-Paul Bell decided to quit judo after six years because he could no longer “touch” Meyer, 32. His decision came about eight months before the Olympics.

Until a new coach arrived, Meyer was responsible for his own planning and there was no coach sitting next to the judo mat during matches. This was a temporary solution that he was not happy with.

“I want to do everything I can to go to the Games and win a medal. “I hope a solution is found as soon as possible.”

Being without a coach upset Meyer, as he realized at the European Championships in France. He regularly walked alone in the judo gym. “Sometimes I can make my own plans, but the current situation is difficult for me. “I feel a little lonely.”

Meyer wanted to give his team full throttle after the European Championship. “Unfortunately, I have to swallow another bitter pill.”

The judoka competes with Jelle Snippe and Jur Spijkers to get tickets to the matches in Paris in the highest weight category. Snippe currently has the best qualifications.
