Here’s your round-up of the latest news from Swansea City for Thursday 9th November.
Duff sets key return schedule
Swansea City manager Michael Duff says none of his injured stars are eligible for Saturday’s trip to Ipswich Town, but says he expects Josh Key to return to the squad after the upcoming international break.
Key has been suspended for the last three league games after picking up a knock against Leicester City and has now been ruled out for the trip to Suffolk on Saturday.
“Hopefully after the international break,” Duff said when asked about the possible timing of Key’s injury. “He’s a bit ill at the moment so we haven’t seen him this week.
“I actually prefer it to happen when he’s injured, so he doesn’t have to train and then get sick. Then we can resolve everything. I hope we can resolve everything.
“Josh was one of our best players before he left the team, but I think Harrison has performed really well since coming into the team. So there is definitely competition for places in that part of the field.”
Meanwhile, Mykola Kuharevich, Joe Allen, Josh Ginnelli, Nathan Wood and Azim Abdoulaye are still undergoing treatment, while Duff’s options have been further reduced by Charlie Patino’s suspension.
“We are short on numbers, with Charlie suspended and a few issues, so we need to see where they are,” the Swans boss said.
“That’s all that’s needed and everyone who was called up raised their hand and took action and we want to continue like this this weekend.
“None of those who lost last week will return, so we must remain as determined as ever.”
Duff reveals conversations with PGMOL after Red Patiño
Michael Duff says he spoke to PGMOL following the Arsenal loanee’s controversial red card against Sunderland at the weekend. The midfielder was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the first half hour.
The Swans manager considers the decision difficult and Duff confirmed he had spoken to the authorities about the decision, although he promised after the 0-0 draw against the Black Cats that he would continue speaking to the 20-year-old.
“It’s part of their training,” Duff said this week. “The part of his game that needs to improve is his lack of the ball and his aggression without the ball.
“I spoke to Kevin Friend from PGMOL and he agrees that there are no yellow cards either. So he was a little unlucky.
“He is also a victim of circumstances. But part of your knowledge is that if you get a yellow card, you have to be very careful in the position you play.
“We start to balance ourselves when they have the ball, not just trusting the fact that we have it and then knowing when not to cross the line, even if we don’t think he crossed the line.
“But he was good. He wants to learn. The beauty of Charlie is that he is at a big club and has lots of headlines saying he will be this and that. But he doesn’t do that. Rest on your laurels. He comes in and works hard. “He trains extra every day and from my point of view it’s a dream.”
A quartet of swans receive an international call
Evan Watts, Cameron Congreve, Josh Thomas and Joel Cotterill have been named in Matty Jones’ latest Wales youth squad for the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifiers.
The Young Dragons will face Iceland on Thursday 16th November before facing Denmark on Monday 20th November. Both matches will be played at Rodney Parade.
Wales are currently second in Group I and are yet to lose any of their three games, with two draws against Denmark and the Czech Republic and a 3-2 victory over Lithuania.
