Willem II take top division lead with win over ten-man Jong FC Utrecht

Willem II temporarily takes over the top position in the Culinary Champion League from Roda JC, who will only play against FC Groningen on Sunday. The Tilburg team had a hard time defeating Jong FC Utrecht at home: 2-1.

Last Monday Willem II suffered their first defeat under Belgian coach Peter Maes, who won his first seven matches in the Netherlands. After the 1-0 defeat against Jong Ajax, another promising team was waiting for Friday evening: Jong FC Utrecht.

Maes’ team once again struggled to score goals against young players who took the lead through Nazjir Held’s goal at the König Willem II Stadium. Willem II equalized midway through the second half. Substitute Max Svensson made the score 1-1.

Willem II, who received a red card due to Mees Akkerman’s harsh intervention, went in search of three points and the lead. This was achieved with a stunning header from Jeredy Hilterman.

Emmen and De Graafschap are on the way

FC Emmen, in 4th place in the league, retained their place at the top by beating low-flying FC Den Bosch 1-0. Despite numerous chances, Emmen only managed a dubious penalty. Jari Vlak made no mistake after Gedion Zelalem’s unfortunate handball.

De Graafschap also continues to be at the top. Doetinchem club won 1:2 at Telstar. David Flakus Bosilj put De Graafschap ahead. The entry of forward Devin Haen into the game while the score was 0-2 created excitement among the fans. Mohamed Tahiri brought the tension back but the score remained 1:2.

NAC Breda coach Jean-Paul van Gastel changed his squad after disappointing results and elimination from the cup against amateur Quick Boys. However, with fewer defensive players and three attackers, they failed to win the competition for the third time in a row. It was 1-1 against Jong Ajax in Breda.

Jong Ajax, who has not yet scored any points in away matches this season, gained a ruthless lead. Mika Godts took the ball from defender Ahmetcan Kaplan, crossed half the field almost unopposed and scored: 0:1. Of the many opportunities the twelfth NAC had, only Aimé Omgba managed to score.

passed VVV Dordrecht

Having made a good start to the competition, FC Dordrecht is gradually losing ground, falling to seventh place. On Friday evening Jong was very strong with PSV 1-4. While Emmanuel van de Blaak, Jason van Duiven, Mohamed Nassoh and Nicolas Verkooijen scored the goals for the Eindhoven team, the goal was scored by American Korede Osundina, who was loaned from Feyenoord.

VVV-Venlo took advantage of Dordrecht’s defeat and moved one place ahead by beating FC Eindhoven (0-2). Magnus Kaastrup and Simon Janssen scored the goals for Limburg.

Helmond Sport lost for the first time in seven competitive matches. Jong AZ defeated Brabanders 2-1. After Hakon Lorentzen made the score 0-1, Finn Stam and Jurre van Aken turned the score around. Brabanders did not come back after Mohamed Mallahi’s red card.

In the lower regions, MVV defeated TOP 0:1 in Oss with a goal from Tunahan Taşçı.

Is Roda ahead again on Sunday?

The fourteenth round continues on Sunday against ADO Den Haag-SC Cambuur, with Roda JC having a chance to regain the lead against FC Groningen.
