Here’s the top news from Swansea for Monday 13th November.
Forward on the radar
Swansea and league rivals Huddersfield Town have been linked with an interest in Newport County striker Will Evans. teamTALK report Evans’ early season form has attracted admirers including the Swans and Terriers.
The publication looked at January’s transition to a man in uniform. He was the first EFL player to score 10 goals this season. The Welshman has 12 this campaign.
Swansea are carrying out “regular checks” on the 26-year-old, who will see his contract at Newport end next summer. Therefore, the January measure could be attractive to exiles. His manager, Graham Coughlan, says Evans’ story is Hollywood-worthy.
“Will Evans should be in the Wales squad. I saw Wales [against South Korea] and I just don’t know what people see, what they think,” said County Superintendent Graham Coughlan. saying in an interview in September.
“Will’s big challenge is consistency, doing it week after week. We’ve all heard about one-month miracles, and I have every confidence in Will that he can keep it up.
“We just don’t know how far Will can go, but it’s a great journey, it’s a great project, it’s a great story for all young Welsh people and all players in the Welsh Premier League to see. He is currently knocking on the door of the Newport County regular first team as well as the Wales senior team.
“It’s an incredible story, if Hollywood got its hands on it it would be a brilliant story, but the question is how to continue, how to start and take it to the next level. “It’s a movie we’ll all be sitting back and waiting and watching, and there may even be a sequel to the first film.”
Yes, let’s get back to football.
Swansea hero Andre Ayew has finally returned to football. The Ghana international has been without a club since he was released by Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.
He has now signed for French club Le Havre and was introduced to fans on Saturday. Le Havre are sixth in the Ligue 1 standings after 12 matches. Luka Elsner’s men are 12 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Ayew joined Forest in February last year but made just 13 appearances for the Reds, starting just once. Now, after four months away, the striker is back in Ligue 1, with options from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and MLS reported.
He began his professional career at Marseille and in 2015 moved to Swansea on a free transfer.
Fulton: work
Swansea midfielder Jay Fulton says they will return to the training ground with plenty to work on during the international break following the defeat to Ipswich Town.
Michael Duff’s men left the East of England with nothing to show for their efforts, losing 3-2 despite taking the lead through Fulton himself. It has been an up-and-down first quarter of the season for the Swans, who are 17th in the Championship. Wales’ upcoming double will be followed by a four-month spell at home and Fulton says there is plenty to work on.
“There are a lot of things you can work on during your break,” he said. “We will watch the Ipswich game and work on what we need to improve.
“I think we were disappointed at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. When we arrived here we believed we had players to compete. We lost in some areas, but some numbers were good.
“We will have a few days off, but then we can dedicate ourselves to tactical work and what we have to work on.
“We will work on it and hope to return to Hull.”
Lowe demands consistency
Jamal Lowe believes his team must start “performing consistently” if they are to compete at the top of the standings this season.
“It was a difficult game. “They are one of the best teams in the championship, they play good football and know how to combine,” said the striker on his club’s website.
“We could have played a little more. I think we were forced to play longer and we didn’t like that, we don’t have the personnel for that style of play. We started well and won 1-0, but at that moment the ties were loosened. It should be the opposite, you should be winning 1-0 and confidence should be high. This is something we can work on and do better.
“I felt we could have done a lot better with a few goals. Jack Taylor’s goal is an incredible shot, but we probably should have saved better from the second shot and the penalty.
“We worked hard after being reduced to ten men and that made our game work again. We won in the end despite being down by ten and we almost scored with the last play of the game, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
“We can’t wait until we are down to ten players or two goals to go forward and give them the game. We need to have the confidence and mentality to play like this all the time.
“We showed character, but it wasn’t enough. We want to be there and we feel we have the players, the team and the ideas to do it. It’s simply a permanent job.”
