Caimanes defeated Tigres 5-2 and remains firmly in the lead

The Caimanes de Barranquilla opened their series against the Tigres de Cartagena yesterday afternoon with a 5-2 victory at the Edgar Rentería Stadium and remain at the top of the Colombian Professional Baseball League.

The victory went to starter Pedro Torres (2-0). Jean Ruiz took the defeat.

Torres worked five and a third innings. He only got two hits and got a free ticket. He eliminated two opponents.

Relievers Héctor García, Omar Bencomo and Jesús Fandiño complemented the pitching to seal the victory.

Alligators attacked early. Manuel Boscán doubled into leftfield to bring in Fabián Pertuz. Then, with Boscán already on third base, Ricardo Céspedes flew to the grasslands to bring in the Venezuelan with a sacrifice fly and quickly make it 2-0.

In the second inning, it was Fabián Pertuz who hit Juan Camilo Zabala from third base with a fly ball to the outfield to make it 3-0.

The Reptiles returned to contention in the fourth inning to make it 4-0, thanks to an RBI single by Zabala that sent Yeison Coca to the register, who was anchored in third base thanks to a triple.

The 5-0 came in the fifth inning, thanks to the flourishes of Ronaldo Hernández, who was given impetus by a sacrificial fly from Coca in the forest in the middle, in a match in which the visitors were able to score in time.

In that inning, Jesús Marriaga had to leave the game because of a blow to the head from a ball. The player has been taken to a medical center where he is being evaluated according to medical protocols drawn up by specialists. His place was taken by Danny Puerta.

The Tigers scored after loading the bases, relieved by Héctor García, thanks to a double by Rafael Peroza that put two lines on the board and narrowed the final difference to 5-2.

Manuel Boscán stood out for Caimanes, going 2-for-5, with a double, an RBI and one run scored.

Caimanes will play Tigres de Cartagena again at the Édgar Rentería Stadium next Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tomorrow morning at 2 p.m. Vaqueros de Montería will play Leones on the same stage.
