The first practice session of the Las Vegas Grand Prix ended in a fiasco. The session had to be stopped after approximately twenty minutes due to the unsafety of the street circuit.
Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari came to a halt on the track after the car was damaged by a manhole cover. Later, training was suspended with a red flag. Formula 1 soon announced that training would not continue.
The street circuit in Las Vegas is new to the Formula 1 calendar. The races are held in and around the famous strip of the American gambling city.
The route is not popular with all drivers. For example, Max Verstappen has previously said that Las Vegas is 99 percent about the spectacle and 1 percent about the racing.
second training
The second training session is scheduled for 9am Dutch time. Formula 1 said, “There will be racing again only when we fully understand and solve the problems.”
Sainz wasn’t the only car damaged. Esteban Ocon’s Alpine was also damaged, possibly by a manhole cover.
