Spanish midfielder Gavi suffered a serious knee injury in the European Championship qualifiers match against Georgia (3-1).
According to many Spanish media, the Barcelona player’s cruciate ligaments were torn. If these fears are confirmed by further investigations, the season will be over for 19-year-old Gavi. This also means he has to miss the European Championships.
“Gavi’s injury looks serious,” national coach Luis de la Fuente said afterwards. “This is a difficult moment for him, for his club, for his team-mates and for me. But that’s part of football. We have no control over this. “We will have to wait and see what the medical examinations reveal over the next few days.”
The talent made his debut in Barcelona’s first team in 2021 under then-coach Ronald Koeman. He has since made over 100 appearances for the club and 27 caps for Spain.
