Tom Brady Criticizes the NFL: “There’s a Lot of Mediocrity” | Video

Tom Brady, considered one of the best players in NFL history and a seven-time Super Bowl champion, assured this Tuesday that there is “a lot of mediocrity” in the league.

During an interview on the YouTube channel Stephen A Smith, the ESPN journalist, the former ‘defender’ of the Patriots and Buccaneers, explained.

I think there is a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL. I no longer see the excellence I saw in the past. I think the training is not that efficient. I believe that the development of young players is not as good as it used to be.

Brady, who retired last February after a 23-year career, emphasized that rule changes introduced around the league to punish hard contact, especially on defense, have set the bar lower than in previous decades.

The rules have allowed many bad habits to infiltrate actual gaming performance. Therefore, in my opinion, I think the product is worse than before.

The 46-year-old former NFL player recalled defensive stars like linebackers Ray Lewis, formerly of the Cuervos, and Deep Rodney Harrison, with whom he played for the Patriots, and Ronnie Lott, formerly of the 49ers, who were characterized by defensive effectiveness and aggressiveness, but today they would have difficulty with their work.

I see a lot of former players like Ray Lewis, Rodney Harrison and Ronnie Lott and others who influenced the game in many ways, but with every blow they took today they would have been punished.

The NFL currently heavily penalizes hits on quarterbacks and receivers, a problem for defenders who sometimes can’t stop to avoid contact due to the speed of each play.

According to the future Hall of Famer, the responsibility for protecting offensive players should fall on the coaches.

You hear coaches complain about their players getting hit, but why don’t they talk to them about how to protect themselves? We’ve been working on these basic principles all along. Nowadays they try to be regulated to protect themselves, but attacking players must protect themselves without depending on others.
