Wales will find out today who they will face in the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 qualifying play-offs.
Rob Page’s side have lost their last two games, drawing only with Armenia and Turkey, while Croatia usurped them with two convincing victories in their games. This means Turkey and Croatia are out of Group D, with Wales now dependent on a play-off to reach Germany next year.
It’s a familiar feeling for Page and co, who had to endure Austria and Ukraine in World Cup qualifying last year. But this time without Gareth Bale, they will need two more wins next March if they are to qualify for a third successive European Championship.
The draw will take place from 11 a.m (UK time) in Nyon, Switzerland. The draw will be streamed live on UEFA.com and the official UEFA Euro 2024 app. Otherwise, we’ll have all the updates for you below.
OPINION: Welcome to the first part of How to qualify for a major tournament without Gareth Bale
When will Euro 2024 be held?
Germany, which has won the competition three times, will host Euro 2024 next year. The decision was made in Nyona in 2018, where the only other country that claimed to participate was Turkey.
It will be the first time the country has hosted a major football tournament since the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with the action taking place across 10 stadiums across Germany. West Germany actually hosted the Euros in 1988, but this will be the first time Germany has hosted the tournament since reunification.
The tournament will begin in Berlin on Friday, June 14th next year, and the final will be held on Sunday, July 14th. The opening match will take place at the Munich Football Arena on Friday, June 14, while the final will take place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
When are the playoffs?
There will be six semi-finals on March 21, 2024 and three finals on March 26, 2024, and the three winners of these matches will complete the 24-team squad for the tournament in Germany.
Where is the draw?
Today’s draw will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, at the House of European Football.
What are the playoff groups in each route?
So, Wales fans, this is the current situation. Three teams will be classified: one from Route A, one from Route B and one from Route C.
We know that Poland will face Estonia in the first Route A semi-final, while Wales will play at home against three potential opponents…
- Semifinals – Route C: Georgia (1) vs. Luxembourg (4), Greece (2) vs. Kazakhstan (3)
- Semifinal – Route B: Israel (1) vs. Ukraine/Iceland (4), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2) vs. Finland/Ukraine (3)
- Semifinal – Route A: Poland (1) vs. Estonia (4), Wales (2) vs. Finland / Ukraine / Iceland (3)
There will also be three draws to determine which semi-final pair from each play-off route will qualify to host the play-off final.
