Dragons just “lie down”
Analyst Shaun Holley accused the Dragons of simply “flooding” in their record loss to the Sharks at the weekend.
Dai Flanagan’s team were annihilated in South Africa by a team that until Saturday had not won a league game. They conceded 10 attempts and scored a total of 69 points, the most they have scored in the history of the competition. Receive the latest World Cup news by subscribing to our newsletter here
It came just a week after their first home win since 2022 against the Ospreys and was a huge step back. Holly didn’t mince words, telling the BBC: “When you go, I don’t care who you play, you have to be harder to beat. You know, 69 points, 49 in the second half, 10 Sharks without winning a game!
“Yes, they brought in four Springboks who made a big difference, but the Dragons stood still and we can’t let that happen. There are certain practical aspects to the game, remember Warren Gatland’s mantra of good defending, good fitness and physicality. , keep fighting. These are the basics you would expect. See, Dai Flanagan is very angry.
The Dragons will now face the Lions next weekend with their ranks in semi-crisis following injuries to Kai Evans and Will Reid.

Biggar has a return date
Dan Biggar has finally been given a date to return to rugby following his horrific back injury.
Biggar fell to the pitch in pain after shooting a cross towards French side Toulon during a match on 4 November. He has not been seen on a rugby pitch since and will not return for another month.
Biggar is targeting a Top14 match against Toulouse on December 23, meaning he could miss out on the chance to return to former club Northampton in a European match a week earlier.
Coach Pierre Mignoni said: “He’s better, but we won’t see him on the field right away. We have to wait at least another three or four weeks. “We hope to bring him back for the European Cup or a little later.”
Peele’s appeal to disgruntled fans
Scarlets coach Dwayne Peel has told his players they simply need to turn their season around as pressure mounts on West Wallia.
The Scarlets sit bottom of the URC table with a points difference of -153 after five defeats in six games. In those games they scored a total of 249 points and looked unstoppable in a lopsided derby defeat against the Ospreys.
While anyone close to Welsh rugby will be aware of the difficulties each of the Welsh teams are currently facing, Scarlets fans are increasingly frustrated with such a poor start to the season despite watching a number of away matches against opposition strong.
Asked if he could make a difference, Peel said: “Well, we have to make a difference. There’s still a lot of rugby to play. We’ve been to some of the toughest places. This defeat is tough to take and I think the Lions game is too but we knew it would be tough at three venues from day one but that’s the nature of the fixture list.
“It’s important for me to get back to the basics of what we’re trying to do. We need the group to overcome this period. We have some guys returning to the team to strengthen us. “It’s difficult at the moment, but we have to work hard now to make sure we are accurate whenever possible.”
Feyi-Waboso’s latest injury
Fears over Welsh winger Emmanuel Faye-Waboso were eased after he was forced off in the 12th minute of Exeter Chiefs’ victory over Newcastle on Sunday.
It came after the 20-year-old scored a series of first-minute goals to reassert himself as one of British rugby’s greatest players. You can see it here. England manager Steve Borthwick was in the stands to see Fahey-Waboso shine as Wales and England qualified.
“I hope it’s not too bad for Manny because he said he felt something and couldn’t open up,” Exeter manager Rob Baxter said.
“But I hope we got him out before he suffered too much damage.”
