Emotions in Depay: “Hard times are behind us, it is not easy to observe”

Memphis Depay is happy to return to the field after a long injury. Depay returned against Mallorca last week and made his second substitute appearance since his return against Feyenoord.

Depay was allowed to play for eight minutes against Mallorca. In an away match against Feyenoord, he was allowed to enter the game as a substitute in the 74th minute. He returned from his thigh injury against Real Madrid at the end of September, but later re-injured his thigh.

‘Hard time’

Depay said after the win against Feyenoord on Tuesday night that he had a difficult time due to consecutive injuries. “I had two injuries that kept me out for a long time. “The second injury was kind of a setback compared to the first.”

“It wasn’t easy. Depay spoke emotionally on RTL 7. It hurts when you have to watch from the sidelines. “You don’t feel like a football player for a while, it’s not fun at all. It’s mentally tough.”

Depay played only ten league matches last season: two at FC Barcelona and eight at Atlético Madrid after the winter break. Madrid only have five this season.

“Everyone asks how this is possible. Me too. I am a professional and I do everything I can to stay in shape.

“Don’t get hung up on weights”

Depay also responded to reports that he has been looking much more muscular lately.

“I haven’t been lifting weights lately. I worked hard to get fit again. I think that has something to do with it. Now that I’m fit again you can see this decreasing again. Plus.” “My DNA shows that I build muscle quickly. Maybe it has something to do with my African father’s genes.”

Rafael van der Vaart suggested at Studio Voetbal last Sunday that Depay is prone to injury due to his increased muscle mass.
