Volendam supervisory board confirms the dismissal of Jan Smit and the management board: “Still a difficult decision”

Jan Smit is no longer the president of FC Volendam. The football club’s supervisory board confirmed the dismissal of the board of directors at an extraordinary meeting on Thursday evening. Jan Smit and his colleagues on the board were not there.

After the meeting, the chairman of the supervisory board, Jaap Veerman, did not want to announce the decision. He will do so at a press conference Friday morning. Veerman said it was “a very difficult decision.” “If the village feels what I feel, then that’s too bad.”

“Türkiye is not suitable for Christmas dinner”

Smit, treasurer Corn Veerman, Hans Bond (technical matters) and Gerben Matroos (commercial matters) were invited by the board to present their views, but the four decided not to do so. “Turkey doesn’t go to Christmas dinner either,” the singer said on social media Thursday afternoon.

According to the supervisory board, the existence of the football club under administration is at risk. The club currently has negative equity of €3 million and, according to the supervisory board, the expected deficit for this season is €2.3 million. Smith denied this.

According to Smit, we now have to wait for the resignation of “the men who made our dreams come true in word and deed: Wim Jonk, coach Jasper van Leeuwen and training director Ruben Jongkind”.
