Kamminga and Schouten back disgraced coach Faber: “He is completely behind Mark”

Swimmers Arno Kamminga and Tes Schouten continue to fully support their national coach Mark Faber, who is being investigated for inappropriate behaviour.

“I’m 100 percent behind Mark, I’m 100 percent behind Mark and the team we have right now,” Kamminga says at the Rotterdam Qualifying Meeting, a qualifying competition for the World Cup and Olympic Games.

Schouten also fully supports Faber. “I’m still happy with him. Swimming is going well, that’s the most important thing for me. “We’re in good sync, I don’t need to say anything more about it.”

complaints

In November, de Volkskrant reported that several swimmers had filed complaints against Faber. He would have too much power and there would be intimidation and harassment.

Earlier this year, Faber announced that he would be stepping down as head coach at the KNZB after this season to focus more on coaching swimmers at the Amsterdam High Performance Centre.

Under Faber, Kamminga won two silver medals at the Tokyo Games. Schouten won his first World Cup medal in the long track this season.

Kamming and Schouten have just finished their training camp with Faber in Turkey. Kamminga: “We worked hard in the camp and had a lot of fun together, I’ve never seen that before. We’re working on something truly magical.

According to Kamminga, Team Faber swimmers support the coach no matter the circumstances, good or bad. “Otherwise you won’t get this far in swimming, you have to trust blindly. “We have now continued with a smaller group, but we are already at a very high level in training.”

In addition to Kamminga and Schouten, Faber’s team also includes Caspar Corbeau and Kenzo Simons.

Schouten says he is primarily concerned about upcoming swimming tournaments. “As long as things go well between me and Mark and the team, that’s fine with me.”

hit the core

According to Kamminga, all this unrest definitely has something to do with Faber. “He is a very passionate and very kind-hearted man. It definitely does something to him, touches his core. “This is very painful to see.”

“Luckily we are surrounded by good people, which is a good thing for him and for us. “We’re having so much fun together right now, that’s nice to see.”
