Tennis player Nick Kyrgios says he has a lot to thank Andy Murray for. The 28-year-old Australian, last year’s Wimbledon finalist, was struggling with terrible mental health issues and even had suicidal thoughts in 2019.
“Andy saw me trying to hurt myself on my arm and immediately asked what was wrong. It was pretty bad at this point. “Of course he tried to give me advice, but I was so caught up in my habits that I didn’t do it.” “Listen,” Kyrgios said in an interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.
Satisfying
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion and a veteran of the tennis tour at the age of 36, remained interested in Kyrgios as he had been before. “Andy has always been a big support for me,” Kyrgios said. “When I came on tour, he saw the need for the job and took me under his wing.”
“Later in my career Andy realized I wasn’t coachable and I went my own way, but he always had his eye on me. Of course, I am very grateful for that.”
According to the Netflix documentary released in June, Kyrgios was hospitalized after his defeat at Wimbledon in 2019.
Kyrgios drank too much and injured himself, saying it became an addiction. “I hated being Nick Kyrgios.”
In the years that followed, Kyrgios decided to help others suffering from similar ailments. “I almost became a beacon for people who were struggling. “When they feel overwhelmed and turn to alcohol and drugs, they open up and feel like I recognize that.”
“The most powerful thing I’ve experienced in my career is people coming to me with real problems.”
