NBA: Mark Cuban sells majority of Mavericks stock but retains control of team

NBADallas Mavericks owner Marcos Cubano agreed to sell the majority stake in the franchise to the Adelson Family, but will retain participation and control of the team.

Shams Charania, one of the journalists with the best sources within the NBA, reported on Tuesday on the portal The Athletic about this operation behind the team in which the Slovenian plays. Luka Doncic.

The portal Esportivo, specialized in sports and business, and Marcos Pedra, another prominent name in NBA journalism, also reported in the same vein.

Charania estimated the team’s value at about $3.5 billion in the sale arranged by Cuban, who paid $285 million to acquire the Texas franchise in 2000.

Miriam Adelson, the widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson (who died in 2021), heads the Adelson family, which will now own the majority of the shares in the Mavericks.

Still, The Cuban will have the final say on the team’s direction in what is known in NBA lingo as “basketball operations.”

In his more than two decades at the helm of the Mavericks, Cuban earned the only championship ring to date in franchise history: the one earned in 2011 by the Dirk Nowitzki-led team.

After the era of the legendary German player, the Dallas team passed into the hands of Doncic.
