They test cameras on English referees to combat player abuse | Video

The English FA (FA) has attempted to use video cameras on referees’ uniforms to clamp down on inappropriate behavior towards referees in British grassroots football.

This device has been used in 500 British youth matches over the past seven months and according to the sample collected, none have reported misuse against the referee.

Yesterday the video of Sparta Praga appeared in the friendly match against Nuremberg. The game has BodyCAM, without referee and without player Lukáš Haraslín.

If you add this video with more images, it will be completely legal to seek medical help.

Daniel Meeson, head of the FA’s refereeing team, assured the BBC that the use of this device has forced players and coaches to “reconsider their behavior” when the referee is speaking.

There were no incidents of a player insulting or attacking a referee and he did not need to activate this device to record incidents of any kind. Referees feel safer, but most importantly, coaches and players have a better playing experience.

Players and coaches said the mere presence of that camera made them reconsider their behavior before speaking or behaving inappropriately toward the referee.

According to Meeson, this test will need “at least another two or three seasons” so that sufficient analyzes can be collected and it can be determined whether it is a “successful” technology.

There has been a rise in the number of referees being abused or assaulted by grassroots footballers or coaches in Britain in recent years, which has also meant that fewer and fewer people are willing to take on this type of work.

Cologne implemented it at the time. Now Sparta Prague???????? in a friendly. Body cameras are on the rise in football. This was Lukáš Haraslín’s first goal.pic.twitter.com/2byjjqLbQM

There have even been some strikes by this collective in Wales and England to protest the conditions they face.

In total, they faced sanctions against 380 players and coaches during the 2021-2022 season for assaulting or threatening referees in English grassroots football.
