Van Peer brakes due to bruised ribs against Woodhouse in World Darts Championship

While Berry van Peer was struggling with intestinal inflammation in 2017 and could not smile at all, the darts player from Roosendaal has a big smile on his face today. In his first match at the World Cup, he defeated world number 33 Luke Woodhouse 3-2 in sets.

And this one was especially nice. He later said that Van Peer had also been experiencing some physical problems this week. Brabander had fallen down the stairs and injured two ribs, meaning he hadn’t been able to train much in recent days.

There was also a mental story surrounding the Dutchman. Six years ago, something went wrong with Van Peer. He failed to remove the arrow from his hand in the Grand Slam of Darts. Darteritus took a serious turn. This situation causes a blockage in the head, which means that the movements that have been done for years suddenly stop working.

But now the arrows were flying from his hands. He was very relieved to win the first set immediately. “Yes, there was a lot of energy today. “I’m really looking forward to it and it’s paying off,” he said later.

But Woodhouse did not give up easily. The Englishman was sharper in the second set and Woodhouse equalized in all five legs.

Van Peer later proved once again that he had completely overcome his psychological problems. He won the third set and scored two arrows in the fourth set, deciding the outcome of the match. However, they lost and the fifth set was supposed to be the decider.

“Those arrows could have gone in, they were close, but they didn’t work. But I knew I could score better in this match, so you shouldn’t think too much about the missed arrows and just brush it off. “And that’s how it happened.”

I missed five match arrows but still had great fun

This was true. In the fifth set, Van Peer initially missed three arrows for the match, but to his delight the fourth was still hit.

The 27-year-old from Roosendal managed to win a match against Woodhouse for the first time in his career. The last two times he couldn’t do it. “I thought: I have to get it back. This was a good motivation for today.”

In the second round, Van Peer will face another Briton, Josh Rock. The Dutch are full of self-confidence. “I threw well today. “I can continue to improve this.”
