Hasta Vitesse knock Heerenveen out of the cup, Go Ahead and Almere City also win

Vitesse is struggling in the competition, but the Arnhem team has found a bright spot in the KNVB Cup tournament. With Amine Boutrah’s last goal, SC Heerenveen advanced to the third round: 1-0.

Boutrah, who was in last place in the last 15 minutes of the Premier League, managed to cover half of the field without any obstacles after Frisian lost the ball in midfield. He also had plenty of space to score and did so with great accuracy.

A minute before the end, the breakthrough Million Manhoef delivered the final blow to Heerenveen, but it went past goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart.

Go Ahead is too strong for De Hits

Go Ahead Eagles were helped at home against De Hits by a Niels Kornelis own goal after fifteen minutes. But things developed quickly in Adelaarshorst: after twenty minutes the scoreboard showed 4-0, again thanks to two goals from Oliver Edvardsen.

This was the signal for Schlags coach Lee-Roy Echteld to make three substitutions after half-time; among them was Tim Waterink, who saved Groesbeek’s honor within five minutes. But the minor league team did not have the capacity to do more. Go Ahead ultimately won 7-1.

The City of Almere survives with ten men

Almere City had to concede a 0-1 deficit after quarter of an hour in Katwijk and looked to follow the example of the countryman Quick Boys against De Graafschap (2-0) with a goal from Ruben Doesburg. To make matters worse, midfielder Alvaro Pena received two yellow cards within a few minutes and Flevolanders had to continue with ten men after 24 minutes.

However, the guest team managed to change the situation at halftime with goals from Yoann Cathline and Kornelius Norman Hansen. With a quarter of an hour left, Matthijs Hardijk thought that the number four team of the Second League had achieved the 2-2 score he was longing for, but the linesman spoiled his team with a flag signal: it was offside.

Alex Pastoor’s team did not give up and won promotion to the Premier League, ending 2023 with a new milestone: Almere City reached the round of 16 for the first time.
