River Plate wins the Champions Trophy together with Miguel Borja

River Plate ended the season with the Champions Trophy, which it won on Friday by beating Rosario Central 2-0.

Facundo Colidio and Ignacio Fernández scored the goals of the match played at the Madre de Ciudades Stadium in the city of Santiago del Estero.

River, newly crowned champion of the Professional League Tournament, today did not concede a margin to Rosario Central, winner of the League Cup.

River, which was just eliminated from the League Cup by Rosario Central, ended its first year with coach Martín Demichelis, replacing Marcelo Gallardo, with two titles.

However, the season saw low points due to elimination in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores and in the round of 32 of the Argentine Cup.

Rosario Central could not today put the finishing touches to the 2023 campaign, which started with the aim of retaining the category. With Miguel Ángel Russo on the bench, they won a national title and sealed their visa for the group stages of the 2024 Copa Libertadores.

River and Rosario today played the third edition of the Champions Trophy, which Millonario crowned in 2021 with a 4-0 win over Colón de Santa Fe, and last year against Racing Club, which defeated Boca Juniors 2-1.

After this match, Argentine football will begin a break until the last week of January with the start of the 2024 Professional League Cup.
